How many Spotify streams does it take to make $1,000, or minimum wage?

At 2026 estimates of $0.003–$0.005 per stream, $1,000 a month takes about 200,000–333,000 Spotify streams. US federal minimum wage for full-time work, about $1,257 a month, takes roughly 251,000–419,000 streams every month. Only songs with at least 1,000 streams in the last 12 months earn anything.

How the numbers work

Streams needed = your monthly goal ÷ (payout per stream × the share your distributor passes on). The calculator rounds up, because a goal is only reached once the last stream is in.

  • Payout per stream: $0.003–$0.005, the 2026 estimate distributors publish (Ditto, 22 June 2026). Spotify doesn’t pay a per-stream rate; it pays rights holders by their share of all streams in a market each month.
  • US minimum wage: $7.25 an hour (US Department of Labor, in effect since 24 July 2009) × 40 hours × 52 weeks ÷ 12 ≈ $1,257 a month.
  • UK National Living Wage: £12.71 an hour from April 2026 (GOV.UK), or £2,203 a month on the same full-time basis.
  • Germany’s minimum wage: €13.90 an hour from 1 January 2026 (Federal Ministry of Labour), or €2,409 a month.
  • Currency: the European Central Bank reference rate of 7 October 2026 (1 EUR = 1.1177 USD = 0.84645 GBP).
  • Listeners: streams ÷ plays per listener. The calculator starts at 2 plays a month; use your own ratio from Spotify for Artists.

At $0.005 (fewest streams) to $0.003 (most) per stream, before any distributor share; a day is an average month of 30.4 days. The other way round, 1 million streams pays about $3,000–$5,000.

Why the 1,000-stream rule matters here

Since April 2024, Spotify pays for a track only once it has reached 1,000 streams in the previous 12 months, plus a minimum number of unique listeners that Spotify doesn’t disclose. For goals the size of a wage the line is easy to clear on the songs doing the work, but streams spread thinly over many songs can leave some of them earning nothing. Spotify for Artists shows each song’s total under Music with the Last 12 months filter.

Questions artists ask

How many streams do you need to make $100 on Spotify?

About 20,000–33,334 streams in a month at $0.003–$0.005 per stream, before your distributor’s share. That’s roughly 660–1,100 streams a day.

How much does Spotify pay for 1 million streams?

About $3,000–$5,000 before your distributor’s share, at 2026 estimates. Spotify sets no fixed rate, so the figure moves with where your listeners are and whether they listen on Premium or for free.

How many monthly listeners is that?

Divide the streams by how often each listener plays you in a month. At 2 plays each, $1,000 a month takes about 100,000–166,667 monthly listeners; at 4 plays each, half that.

Does my distributor change the number?

Yes, when it keeps a share. Annual-fee plans such as Ditto’s or TuneCore’s pass on 100% of streaming income; CD Baby keeps 9% and RouteNote’s free plan keeps 15%, so you need about 10% or 18% more streams for the same goal.

Is minimum wage the same in every country?

No, so the calculator has three presets: the US federal rate, the UK National Living Wage and Germany’s statutory minimum, each as a 40-hour week. Type any amount to set your own goal.
